Western Yolo Recreation Center Association (WYORCA)

The Western Yolo Recreation Center Association (WYORCA) mission is to provide a much-needed location for Esparto and neighboring town residents to gather, exercise, and create a safe location for children to play. The town of Esparto is a rural and diverse community, with many families that are low-income

WYORCA recently coordinated the construction and funding of the Tuli Mem Park in Esparto, CA.  The 8.67-acre park includes a 25-meter lap pool, locker rooms and bathrooms, baseball and soccer fields, an outdoor basketball court, a community meeting room, a central gathering area and a pedestrian bridge connecting the Esparto High School to the park.

WYORCA plans to use the funds raised at the Yolo Brewfest for purchasing and installing the shade structures around the pool and picnic areas of Tuli Mem Park.

Providing a safe and pleasant gathering place is imperative to improving the majority rural and low-income communities surrounding Esparto.

Yolo Farm To Fork (YFTF)

Kids love to eat what they grow. Yolo Farm to Fork feels now is a critical time to harness the positive power of growing healthy food and providing experiential learning that gardens have to offer. Their activities include support for edible school gardens, field trips to local organic farms, and helping students harvest and deliver veggies to their school cafeteria for school meals – especially in schools serving low-income populations that are fighting childhood obesity.

YFTF currently reach over 10,000 students throughout Yolo County from preschool through college, and their elementary school gardens have delivered over 5,000 pounds of fresh produce to school cafeterias.

YFTF plans to use Yolo Brewfest funds to provide Woodland elementary school teachers with modules of hands-on, standards based, garden-to-classroom lessons.  These modules are professionally designed to address California State Content Standards and the new Next Generation Science Standards with enjoyable, experiential lesson “kits” that come with all the materials a teacher needs to implement a given lesson with an entire classroom.
